帕米拉是敘利亞重要歷史遺跡，被聯合國教科文組織列為珍貴地標，雖然敘國政府軍在撤離前將雕像文物運往安全區，但大型的博物館與遺址恐難逃IS的暴力破壞。
【古文物急撤離】《今日俄國》報導，IS日前與敘利亞政府軍發生大規模衝突，並成功奪下歷史古城帕米拉，占領地方安全指揮大樓、學校等機構，將政府軍趕出古城。根據敘利亞電視台報導，阿薩德軍隊在受到攻擊後隨即協助民眾撤離，將可移動的上百件古物雕像搬到安全區域，最後將帕米拉交出。
帕米拉遺址是敘利亞中部的重要古代城市，位於大馬士革東北215公里，是商隊穿越敘利亞沙漠的主要中轉站、商業中心，更是文化重鎮。帕米拉坐擁2千多年的寺廟、列柱式街道，以及藏有珍貴文物的圖書館，被聯合國教科文組織列為重要地標。
然而伊斯蘭國將這些珍稀歷史文物視為偶像崇拜的象徵，為伊斯蘭教條中所嚴格禁止。「只要有5名武裝分子進入就可以將所有文物銷毀。」敘利亞古物局局長阿布杜卡林表示，目前已有上百件雕像文物被移到安全區，但大型的古蹟建物與博物館恐怕會被破壞殆盡，「這是IS與全世界的戰爭。」聯合國教科文組織與敘利亞政府都呼籲國際社會傾力相救。
【4成敘利亞地失陷】此次占領帕米拉的行動與進占伊拉克拉馬迪的行動相距不過3天，當時IS殺害超過500人，讓4萬民眾流離失所。根據《德國之聲》報導，敘利亞人權觀察組織估計，目前敘利亞已有超過40%的區域落入IS手中，包括大面積油田。法國政府已經要求最晚在下個月召開國際會議，以應對IS帶來的恐怖威脅。
IS上個月才摧毀了伊拉克尼姆魯德，該地是從西元前13世紀流傳至今的重要建物與亞述遺跡。另外在伊拉克北部古城哈特拉，超過2千多年的古老遺址也被IS武裝分子以斧頭、電鑽、炸藥所破壞。今年2月IS聖戰士還入侵摩蘇爾博物館、炸毀摩蘇爾公共圖書館、焚毀重要經典，只留下伊斯蘭教相關出版品。
